Californians drive to work.
New Yorkers commute in crowded subways and buses, and walk crowded streets.
The subway spread the disease like wildfire.
I think that is a very good point. Trains in and out of there are packed and the subways and buses are like sardine cans. Most streets below 59th are usually packed with people.
My last day in there was March 13th and I've had no symptoms so I guess my self-quarantine is a success.
Californians are out side more for recreation than are New Yorkers at that time of the year.
