> But does that mean they’re ever going to start implementing its usage?

as it currently appears to me to stand, some states are using it and other states are prohibiting it, while one (NY) changed its mind overnight from prohibition to use. trump has been talking it up since at least last thursday, and musk since march 13.

personally i don’t think trump and musk would have taken the risk to hype hcq unless they already had rather good confirmation that it yielded reasonably good results.

with now states contradicting each other, it is becoming in some ways a federal issue. as a federal issue, it would at least nominally seem to come under the federal system to resolve, if consistency of practice is commonly regarded as a desirable virtue in medical practice.

the side effects and thus the medical risk of hcq are rather small and well known. the cost is relatively low. many doctors and patients are already familiar with it. therefore imho the trump view will probably prevail, and the people resisting it are imho probably doing so for extra-medical (eg political) reasons.

trump seems to have developed a knack for being ahead of the curve and so therefore this might be no exception to that general rule so far as his judgment goes. if trump is right about hcq and a domestic source of production can be cranked up quickly, then much of the covid-19 problem will go away as quickly as it came, and business will shortly return to normal— as trump has been predicting (not necessarily a coincidence imho).
