HHS Inspector General to Investigate Whistleblower Complaint on Trump Admin’s Handling of COVID-19 Outbreak

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning several different investigations into the Trump administration’s response to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to the Washington Examiner, at least five inquiries “related to HHS’s planning and response of the COVID-19 outbreak” will be conducted by the internal oversight authority.

Per that report:

The inquiries will scrutinize issues such as nationwide hospital responses, quarantine procedures, the training and protective gear provided to front-line health workers, nursing home standards amid a disease with an exponentially more deadly effect on the elderly and the already ill, and the ability to care for . . . refugees during [the] public health crisis.

Notably, one such review appears to be in response to a whistleblower complaint alleging that the initial White House response effort exposed government personnel to the sometimes-deadly contagion before sending those same employees across the country on civilian airliners.

Yes, I do think it’s a stretch. Boris Johnson, I don’t think, hates Trump enough to ruin Britain’s economy by locking down his country as it’s in the midst of leaving the EU.

Narendra Modi just held (back when this all first started to break out—seems so long ago) a huge rally for Trump and he shut his country down yesterday. India has 700 cases and 14 dead. The fact that they are taking such an extreme measure over such small numbers tells me this is more than just a plot against President Trump.

No, I don’t think they are benevolent deep-thinkers. I think they’ve been told stuff that has scared the living hell out of them—something that hasn’t been shared with us. I think this not only because of the extremity of the reaction, but its near (or complete) universality.

I too appreciate President Trump’s style, and if the polls are to be believed, so do the American people. I think he had his doubts when first confronted by this. Why shouldn’t he? He has been opposed by the deep state/intelligence services etc. from the time he declared for office. But once he saw Wuhan for what it is he has led this country’s fight against it very well. Banning flight’s from China was an early first step that he was, of course, roundly criticized for.

Those numbers don’t justify the reaction. COVID is a piker compared to yearly influenza. No, what it shows me is that everyone is jumpimg off a bridge because their friend did. Just like mom warned us against.

I agree. That’s why I think there is something there that those numbers don’t reflect. You are prime minister of the 2nd largest nation on earth. Are you going to piss 1.3 billion voters off because ‘everyone else’ is doing it? What would you have to be told to make you do it?
