Last paragraph in the story is the kicker. It was all a game, and it never was anything but:

"I agree with Germaine Greer and Barry Humphries," he said recently. "You can't be a woman [just because you've had a sex change]. You're in the middle and there's nothing wrong with that. I certainly wouldn't have the wedding tackle taken off. That is a huge jump and I have all the sympathy in the world for anyone who does it," O'Brien added. "But you aren't a woman."

I loved it then and still do.

However the fan sing- and quote-alongs are way dirtier than they used to be. That says more about modern culture than about the movie.

It almost wasn’t Meatloaf. Show started on Broadway. Backstage at one show was the most famous singer on earth who liked the show so much that there were talks of him doing the part of Eddie in the movie. But they never were able to work things out so Meatloaf got the part instead of Elivs.

No one is too old for RHPS. And didn't you just have another kid a few years ago? The only people who will understand all the references in the movie's opening song would have to be in their 60s or 70s anyway:

Yup. I hit 100 back in High school. It was the “thing to do”. before Social media. It was social, sick and twisted, but social.

I doubt I could ever watch it again, but heck back then we had nothing else to do on the weekend. Kept us off the street and for the most part out of trouble.

Oh-kay . . . what does Throbbing Gristle really have to do with Rocky Horror, other than having freakishness in common?

BTW, Wikipedia uses the pronoun “they” for the late Mr. Megson rather than “s/he”.

I went to a midnight showing in the 80s, the crowd antics were great, such as in the movie when they proposed a toast, the audience threw pieces of toast.

If you’ve been to a Midnight showing at a Theater the Show turns Into a “Group Participation” Event. I think rolls of Toilet paper are used.

Are there any others? The closest I can think of (and thankfully it didn’t last) was “Mommy Dearest”.

When I read Bill Clinton’s excuse for abusing that woman, Ms Lewinsky, I thought of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

I was ‘doin wrong
With an intern in a thong
But she was good for relieving
My

when I was in college, it showed as a midnight movie every night for years. It does have a good soundtrack, but most fun was the college kids who dressed up and made it an interactive event. Of course most were drunk, stoned, or most common...both.

>>The article makes a good point that a lot have noticed: what was considered shocking and obscene by 1970s standards is now considered “not woke enough” and “insensitive to transgender people”

except Genesis P-Orridge will never get in the RnR Hall of fame but Trent Reznor did. No Throbbing Gristle and other 70s-80s industrial bands, no Nine Inch Nails.

GG Allin is still beyond the pale.

A lot of us who watched it '75 only did so once.

There lots of movies that were only shown at midnight.

The Groove Tube comes to mind.

That's great. Now I can imagine Elvis doing: "Hot Patootie, Bless My Soul."
