The House voted just before 1 a.m. Saturday to pass an emergency coronavirus response bill to increase testing and aid people kept from work, a measure meant for quick signing by President Trump next week as the government tries to arrest the pandemic.

The final vote was 363 to 40, with one member voting "present."

"Our bill which is basically intact what we are passing," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the Democrats' original coronavirus package released on Wednesday.

"And there's some things that they wanted that we have to put off until the next time because it just came in late, you know," said Pelosi, referring to Republican requests to change the bill

The legislation, which is expected to be approved by the GOP Senate when it returns next week, came after intense talks between Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, which continued through the evening Friday.

The legislation will provide for free coronavirus testing, guarantee workers two weeks of paid sick leave, up to three months of paid leave, increase unemployment benefits, lunches for children who would normally eat at school, and increase Medicaid funding.

Kill this pork laden bill in the Senate, and if that doesn’t work, the President should veto it.

Left out of the package was Trump’s request for a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year, a proposal that would have constituted roughly a $850 billion tax cut.

The should have included eVerify to ensure that any job-related benefits go only to US citizens and people authorized to be here. Everyone else gets deported.

” the President should veto it.”

The president tweeted in support of it, urging the House to pass it.

Freepers need to start complaining about wasteful foreign-wars spending (trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars; a billion a week in Afghanistan, for example). Until they do, nobody’s going to take their “fiscal conservatism” seriously when they only complain about money if it’s spent on Americans here at home. That’s an “America last” attitude that loses elections, and fails the tests of consistency, sincerity, and common sense.

She tried, but Trump forced it out.

Simply not enough conservatives in Congress for Trump to do anything else. It’s what it is.

If we can afford to occupy the country of Iraq indefinitely, we have enough money to spend on Americans here at home.

I used to be a fiscal conservative about domestic spending, till I realized that most of my fellow “fiscal conservatives” never complained about unlimited money spent on foreign wars, foreign nation-building, and foreign aid. It was only when money was spent for Americans here at home that they started complaining about the cost, and yammering about “limited federal government.” Unlimited funds for foreigners and foreign escapades, but no subsidies for Americans - - that double standard I couldn’t buy, so my perspective has dramatically changed. So I have no problem with the bill that Trump has pledge to sign.

“We’re all Keynsians now”

Why did I read that as "We are all Kenyans now."?

That’s just it, everybody wants less spending until their pet programs get the axe.

Better check that....Nasty Nancy just claimed the bill passed “intact as originally written”. On to the Senate for the last chance to examine/modify early next week.

Why the need to increase unemployment benefits?

To help the democrats constituency base.....

I feel like Trump threw in the towel on this one.. he got the abortion stuff out, but that may have been a red herring by Nancy anyway.

Wont do anything to help most americans or the economy.

More democratic pork.

“Our bill which is basically intact what we are passing,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the Democrats’ original coronavirus package released on Wednesday.

“And there’s some things that they wanted that we have to put off until the next time because it just came in late, you know,” said Pelosi, referring to Republican requests to change the bill.

To hear nancy talk seems like it is the original bill only so I guess you have to pass it to see whats in it.
