AOC: People are avoiding Chinese restaurants due to 'straight-up racism' surrounding coronavirus

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed that the coronavirus was having racist side effects because people were avoiding Chinese restaurants. "Honestly, it sounds almost so silly to say, but there's a lot of restaurants that are feeling the pain of racism, where people are literally not patroning Chinese restaurants, they're not patroning Asian restaurants because of just straight-up racism around the coronavirus," she said during an Instagram Live session on Tuesday. On social media, some suggested that the freshman congresswoman was blowing the situation out of proportion. "Honestly though, Alexandria. Can we at least try to reserve the term racism for things that are actually evil and racist?" congressional candidate Luke Edison Negron tweeted.

I was a member of the Mailhandler's Union. To make a long story short this union has it's roots in what was called the Aliance, a union of Black RR mail clerks and baggage handlers that formed around 1913. The reasons they organized was not only to protest themselves from the eeevil Vanderbilts and other RR barons of the day, but because the WHITE SOCIALISTS at the forefront of the labor movement wanted nothing to do with any Black people. I saw a suggestion that we buy gift certificates from our favorite restaurants to help them through this lean period. We can use them later when things have calmed down. Many restaurants operate on a very slim profit margin.
