Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning tried to take her own life in a Virginia jail on Wednesday ahead of a looming court date, her legal team said in a statement.
She has been recovering and is still expected to appear in court for a hearing Friday after refusing to testify before a grand jury in a WikiLeaks probe, the attorneys said.
Manning was re-arrested last May for failing to comply with the subpoena to testify after serving two months for the same issue.
A judge is set to rule Friday on a motion to terminate the civil contempt sanctions stemming from her May refusal.
She told the judge in May shed rather starve to death than comply with the subpoena.

SHE my ass...ITS A HE!!
A publicity stunt to get out of jail.
I believe the dude lopped his junk off. I’d be suicidal too.
Lack of commitment
If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.
In today’s news:
Bradley Manning Didn’t Kill Himself
“....take his own life...” Get it right.
He really can’t do anything right, can he?
there is no such person as chelsea.
But insanity has become the norm too much recently.
I still remember when Bruce Jenner was on Wheaties boxes.
Now I don’t know what box he belongs on
And remember- He released classified data to WikiLeaks that got people killed. Instead of a court martial and firing squad, Obama pardoned him.
Same with that other goober who deserted in enemy territory, and got people killed searching for him, whose father made the stupid excuse that his son “forgot how to speak English” so he was going to speak to him in Arabic- and then recited some Arabic victory prayer or something akin to that on The White House steps, causing Obama to have a great big smile.
This little fairy is far more trouble than he's worth.
Chelsea Manning didnt almost kill itself.
There is (or was) a YouTube video of it, with English translation.
