US offering Patriot system if Russian S-400s not operated: Turkey

The United States has offered to sell Turkey its Patriot missile defence system if Ankara promises not to operate a rival Russian system, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said, in what he called a significant softening in Washington's position.

Two Turkish officials told Reuters News Agency that Turkey was evaluating the US offer but added that Ankara had not changed its plans for the Russian S-400 systems, which it has said it would start to activate next month.

NATO allies Turkey and the US have been at odds over Ankara's purchase last year of the S-400s, which Washington says are incompatible with the alliance's defence systems.

After heavy fighting in northwestern Syria's Idlib region this year, Turkey asked Washington to deploy Patriots along its border with Syria for protection.

But the US said Turkey could not have both the S-400s and the Patriots.

Maybe Turkey doesn’t belong in NATO?

Actually, it would be better to kick out Turkey and invite Russia. Lets reconfigure NATO to oppose our real enemies in the form of extremist middle-eastern regimes, instead of pretending that Russia is a threat. This would solve all the problems with the S-400 etc...just integrate it with NATO systems and all will be well.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan....

Isn't this the same guy who just opened the Turkish border with Greece to let all the Syrian Muslims trash the Greek homeland? The same Muslim mobs the Greek police have had to use tear gas to control? It's amazing how fast those pictures got taken off the internet. So why is the U.S. even thinking about giving Turkey the best technology the West has to offer? The Greeks should be furious with us.

Let’s face it, Venezuela and Cuba are not a military threat to anyone but themselves. I pretty much guarantee that if Russia was invited to NATO, they would change their tune regarding Iran. Pretending that Russia is an enemy of NATO only pushes them to the margins and requires that they be on defense. Their geopolitical behavior would be the natural reaction of any rational nation.

F the Turks. They should never have been a part of NATO. As for our military bases in Turkey, we keep them. We fly in 'our' airspace over Turkey when we damn well please. Why? Because they are F'n Mooooslims, and because we can exert our will over them. Period.

I'm f'n tired of death cultists messing with us. Damn Saudi's screwing with oil supply needs to be fixed too.

At this point the only positive that NATO offers to the US is the opportunity to sell weaponry to the Europeans (and Turkey). There is no credible threat from Russia any longer, so it ain’t the forward defense of the United States and it’s interests in Europe.

All true with the exception of the fact that NATO only exists based on the lies of how dangerous Russia is.
