OHIO STATE SUSPENDS IN-PERSON CLASSES THROUGH AT LEAST MARCH 30 DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

In an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus, Ohio State is suspending all in-person classes through at least March 30, instead moving to virtual instruction, according to a university-wide email from Ohio State President Michael Drake.

Ohio State also announced a hiatus on the scheduling of "new, non-essential events" through April 20, and is encouraging event organizers for scheduled non-essential events between now and then "to immediately evaluate whether these events should continue in person." The Buckeyes' spring game is currently slated for April 11.

Students, currently on spring break, will be permitted to work from their current place of residence or return to campus "where appropriate social distancing and enhanced preventative public health and hygiene measures will be actively encouraged."

The news follows the first cases of the coronavirus in the state of Ohio, where three people tested positive for the virus in Cuyahoga County.

"While there are no campus-associated cases of COVID-19, we know that there are at least three confirmed cases in the state of Ohio, and we expect that there will be more," Ohio State President Michael Drake said in the email. "We are being proactive in an effort to prevent illness and continue the important work of the university. I understand that our policy guidelines will cause measurable disruption, but the risk of not acting outweighs the inconvenience of these temporary measures."

Ohio State plans to evaluate other classroom experiences such as laboratory and performance classes. The university plans to have more specific guidance on that front later this week.

Clearly you have no grasp of what my data confirms, and why I’m putting it out there.

Schools are going to tell Spring Breakers not to come back for a few weeks.

Public officials have no grasp of what HIPPA is all about.

They think they are abiding by the law by not reporting out the facts.
Baloney!

As long as patient's names are not given out, there's no violation
of HIPPA.

Telling us the ages and contributing health conditions for a broad body
of people who succumbed to a disease, is not a breach of a single
person's private information.

You address the issue of the press and panic. And this does play
into it.

Crazy. Cuyuhoga county is 2 hours away from Columbus, and because 3 people tested positive up there, they are canceling classes here, classes that aren’t even in session because they’re on spring break.

If our school district closed because of 3 flu positives 2 hours away, they’d fire the superintendent.

Kids EXIST, because they are in a family of people, full of older people.

All of them.

Every single kid. Is surrounded by older people. Some much older.

Kids, pass along the virus to every single one of them.

Not good.

They don’t even realize that, most of the time.

What about a line chart overlaid with the main countries (don't overcrowd it countries though) by different colors, solid color representing recovered and dash representing deaths, with the vertical axis for numbers and horizontal axis for dates?

Below addition may overcrowd the chart:

Perhaps also overlay a line for total cases by country with some other distinguishing characteristic (points, plaid, etc) by country color.

Or perhaps a separate chart for total cases by country, by date?

Do this makes any sense? :)

Yes it does, and it's not a bad idea.

I don't want to dedicate any more time to this than it already
takes.

Most of what I'm doing is plug and play.

I copy lists off the JHU site, paste it, and my computer does
most of the work.

Takes me about ten minutes per report line. (row)

I fully understand, as you have a lot of work invested here. If I can find the time, I may give it a go by plugging in your data. ;)

“Public officials have no grasp of what HIPPA is all about.

The physician in charge of the DC health department should know better about HIPPA; and she wouldn’t give any relevant info.

And she shouldn't for one case. For a whole grouping of cases, she doesn't know s from Shinola
if she's refusing to give information based on HIPPA.

There is a certain kind of work, done by a certain kind of worker, that can be done from home. If I’m not in my office, there are some employees that carry on without interruption - they know what needs to be done, and the deadlines involved. Others simply fart around as much as possible.
