(CNN)College students who find themselves out on a date gone wrong at bars in southeastern Florida may be able to turn to the bartender for help.
Posters hanging in the restrooms of about a dozen bars and restaurants in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Jupiter give instructions to women about alerting bartenders if they're in danger or uncomfortable. First, order a drink called the "Owl Shot." Then, depending on what's happening, say one of the three coded phrases displayed on the posters. Based on the code, here's how the bartenders will respond: 'Neat': Bar staff will escort you to your car 'On the rocks': Bar staff will call a ride for you 'With lime': Bar staff will call the police

Couldn’t they just ask for those things?
They expect drunk people to remember code words?
This not a bad idea. But wouldnt it be simpler to just put up a sign saying:
If you feel unsafe, please tell the bartender. Ask for a cab and we will get one for you.
“Secret Codes”
Well, not so secret anymore, huh?
Pouring a drink on someone was the signal back in my day.
“Couldnt they just ask for those things?”
I suppose they could if they wanted to tip off their date/s.
I think that the purpose of this is to do it surreptitiously so that their dates do not know.
I can just see all the women playing a joke on their dates.
“I never called for the police. I just asked for an Owl Shot with lime”
Man, they don't like to give up those limes, do they?
Its not so secret now, is it?
Guy ticks off girlfriend.
She orders herself a drink.
And a shot for him.
Great way to keep a “secret” code secret - by putting it on CNN. Unless it’s only meant to be used on conservatives?
My bartender was new. I asked for a Corona with lime and he called the police and they dragged my date to the hospital. Up until that point, it had been an awesome date.
Considering this is all over the internet, everyone already knows the code words.
They have the same thing at Clemson University. There are flyers taped all over the ladies rooms in all the downtown bars.
I worked in a bar and the lime slices were probably the most unsanitary items in the whole place. They sit out in the open all day and at closing time, they are shoved into the refrigerator and taken back out the next day. You do not want to ask for a lime slice in your drink, trust me on that! On the positive side, the alcohol in your drink will likely kill most of the germs so I guess it’s not that big of a deal.
“No, no, no - I wanted my Owl Shot with a ‘limey’, not a ‘lime’ - you know, one of those foreign guys who talks funny?”
The bartender magically appears and decides he is going to escort another guy’s date to her car?
Are they trying to stop trouble or start trouble?
So if you ask for a police escort, do they pour you a martini?
“Owl shot”?
Let me guess, FAU?
