California's Government Has Turned Homelessness Into Big Business. The new money will be consumed in a bureaucratic hiring frenzy, used to pay state-level salaries and pensions, and build a bigger "homeless industrial complex."

...

You might have noticed California is enduring housing and homeless crises. The market solution to housing shortages is simple: Government should reduce regulations, slow-growth restrictions, rent controls and fees that limit supply and drive up prices. Let builders build. Homelessness is a more complicated problem because homeless people often have addiction and mental-health issues, but more housing would help.

I can't say exactly how it will work, just as I can't say exactly how a molly bolt gets from the foundry in India to Home Depot in Sacramento. But I can tell you what won't work—namely the policies our government now is championing. Gov. Gavin Newsom spent most of his recent State of the State speech detailing a blueprint for dealing with the "disgraceful" homeless situation, which involves more public spending and programs.

But, as The Sacramento Bee reported following the talk, the governor's ambitious plans "depend on a state department that is understaffed, lacking permanent leaders and struggling to adjust to change, according to documents and interviews." You can take this to the bank: The new money will be consumed in a bureaucratic hiring frenzy, used to pay state-level salaries and pensions, and build a bigger "homeless industrial complex."

That's a facetious, but accurate, phrase used by critics of the state's homeless policies. They've noticed there's big money in the homeless business. I'm not referring to the serious and important work Rescue Missions and other charities do to alleviate the sting of homelessness, but rather to the armies of bureaucrats and subsidized businesses who have little incentive to reduce homelessness—and every reason to seek more public revenues.

Remember that EVERY government department has social causes as a part of its’s budget.

And billions will be siphoned off in the form of graft and juicy contracts to political cronies and family members.

I need to get in on this scam. There’s free money being handed out here. Well, “free”, as in Cali taxpayers. But they don’t think about that. So it’s free.

Coronavirus money will end up the same way. They said Trump’s money wasn’t enough. He didn’t figure in the waste and corruption that would siphon it off! Democrats had calculated it with that included.

The author missed the insane and dangerous libtard polices making it impossible to put the severely mentally ill or addicted on more than a 72 hour hold. *That* is your *root cause*.

Keep a sharp eye on Seattle. The city wants to pass a law forcing property owners to fork over a part of their land to be used by the homeless.

If this is not pure Bolshevism, what is it? Shall we start the count down to the day the city demands part of your house to benefit the homeless?

Same thing happening in Utah. They already have a $3.5 Million shortfall on a recently opened shelter. They are looking to state and local governments (translation: Taxpayers) to bail them out.

Much like the joke that ends “... a thousand for you, a thousand for me, and we hire the guy from Kentucky to build the fence”.

This out of control. Solution: Step 1: Cite for vagrancy. Step 2: If caught again place them in a facility for rehabilitation and work. Step 3 : If caught again rinse and repeat.

In my opinion, we should stop handing out wads of cash to *anybody*, especially foreign governments (or PR) for disaster relief.

We need to appoint a trustee to manage the money and pay it directly to contractors who do repairs—in progress payments, just like banks do, and with our oversight.

*We* cut the checks and pay directly for food and supplies. *We* buy the clothes and needed items for the victims.

We have to cut the thieves out of the loop 100%, foreign and domestic.

Of course, there will be corruption among the contractors but it won’t come anywhere near the theft that governments will do. And the victims will get what they need. Just price it in.

That’s how the China Flu money needs to be managed. Not the dem way. The smart businessman way.

I have been saying this for a long time.

Policticians love problems like “homelessness”.

It is viable. It bothers voters. It allows them to open the money pipe to “solve” the problem.

And the biggest reason they love it is because they never set any standards or goals so that a program can be determined to be a success or failure.

Think of the movie THE PRODUCERS. No one audits a failed play, no one audits a failed social program.

The next big service market in CA is to set up a business cleaning up homeless areas, crap, needles, trash, etc.

Though many will make lots of $, I wouldn’t start such a business.

This has been the plan all along. Homelessness has been encouraged. It is seen as a means to grow the government. I believe they’ve been planning this for decades

So they will hire the homeless to staff the bureacracy? That would be a brilliant solution!

If you house them, feed them, clothe them, give them needles to shoot up with, let them poop and pee wherever they want, and otherwise coddle them... they will come.
