Turkey has no business in Syria. They need to get out so that the “opposition” can see they need to make a deal with Assad instead of the war continuing. Many of the refugees came from ISIS, other Islamic fundamentalist groups that Turkey backed, and their attached families. Europe should not accept Erdogan’s demand that the EU accept any refugees coming out of Turkey. It is a result of the regime change agenda against Assad. That should have never happened. All it did was cause Assad to invite Russia and Iran to increase their roles in Syria.

“The Russians put great credence in their air defenses, but we and the Israelis and now the Turks seem to get around them fairly easy.”

S300s and 400s are not gotten around easily. Especially not by Turks. They haven’t been fired for larger reasons. But if they do go hot, don’t kid yourself, they are very effective. They won’t shoot them at Israelis or US planes for larger political reasons. But Turks should be very careful

"Hope the stupid muzz Turks will enjoy being a Russian colony."

Russia has plenty of room in Siberia to hold most of the Turkish population... Plus free housing, good chances for vocational advancement, occasional food, clear skies for their telescopes, and lots of ice fishing...

No, not since Turkey invaded another country. We have no obligation to help. And even if we did, we are only obliged to take whatever actions we “deem necessary”. That can be a letter of protest. There is not a single treaty requiring military action.

Also, Turkey flipped us the finger when we invaded Iraq. They prevented US forces coming in from the north. We can help them the same way they did us.

Most of those were the Soviet Union, which encompassed not only Russia, but Ukraine & Belarus.

Russia today, without the Soviet satellite nations, is a shell of itself.

Modern Russia has the economic power of such “powerhouses” as: Canada (population 37 million), and Australia (population 24 million).

Considering their population (154 million), Russia is a relatively poor country. Yes, Russia is aggressive in its military adventures, but its military reach is limited due to finances.

The Russians, for all their faults, are still NOBODY to f*** around with.

They can and WILL kick the Turks asses three ways till Sunday if provoked.

And I’ll cheer for them when they do.

Turkey is the aggressor and NATO is a defense treaty. Let Turkey start it and cut off all aid to it. Let Russia have everything up to around 100 klicks east of the Dardanelles. As long as they give the Crimea back to Ukraine.

It appears that Mr. Erdogan must have his affairs in order and prepared for the consequences of kicking the bear in the shins.

Ok, I am no expert on the subject - I guess I was just stirring the pot a bit. But I still think Turkey would not fare well in a direct conflict with Russia.

NATO won’t bail Erdogan out in this squabble of his own making.

That report is 5 years old, but it’s close to what I was thinking.

There’s another report out there that states it’s closer to 3 million.

And yet another report printed last year stated Russia would be 30% Muslim by 2030.

Regardless, those who deny this little issue as being problematic for the Russian Bear are senile.

Demographics are not on Russia’s side. Iran has an even worse problem with it’s aging population.

“Don’t we kinda sorta need Turkey for military bases?”

We did back before we couldn’t reach out and touch someone from bases in the US. Prior to ICBMs we had Jupiter nuclear missiles based in Turkey. JFK gave those up when Russia agreed to pull their missiles out of Cuba.

Forward basing is our strategy. But we probably have air bases that could make up for Incirlik if we decided to leave.
