Most sane decision I’ve seen to date.
We used to close schools for polio, we should bring back quarantine procedures and school closings.

OMH, it’s so not the flu. Covid-19 has 10X the virulence/infectiousness and 20X the death rate.

Closing schools would be a state by state maybe even county by county call.

I wouldn’t expect to see a federal order, but a federal strong suggestion could happen.

The best breakdown I have seen so far.

Somehow, 13.7% mortality rate from Iran sounds like one of the few reports that might actually be truthful.

I think before we, the public, fall for the media created crisis we need to ask some questions.
1. Is the virus killing anyone?
2. What is causing the deaths? Old age or weak immune systems.
3. Where are the reports of dire circumstances coming from and what is their purpose?
I have a real distrust of any of the information I am hearing that leaves out the above important points.

I have family in Japan-- a daughter, brother and two grandsons, not to mention a son-in-law and many close friends. Yes, the technology is available there to school from home. The school year generally ends by the 3rd week of March. The same daughter was in kindergarten when the Kobe earthquake struck January 17, 1995. Her two older sisters were in elementary school.

They went to school to collect lessons and reported periodically to check in. My brother (then single and outside the earthquake zone) worked for another school district and invited them to come and live with him until their home school got back to normal in April. Technology, of course, is a little better now for home schooling.

231 people are self quarantining in Massachusetts

Wouldn't want to be the one who counts their absentee ballots on Tuesday.

See 61, if you want to talk economic ruin.

The alternative is a city blowing up with Covid-19 like Wuhan, with a death rate over 15%.

It was never a good idea to enrich a country with which we would likely go to war someday.

We did ship a LOT of scrap iron to Imperial Japan, and got it back as bomb casings, etc.

No real need to learn the lessons of history in a classroom, they are incessantly repeated outside academe, in real life.

They’ll have no choice not to close when parents hear this and take their kids out.

Again, this is not your everyday flu. It is in the family as the flu just like a bunny and a lion are mammals. Now, which would you like wandering in your front door? The bunny or the lion? Hey, no problem. Same thing, huh.

About 3 months ago, China only had 60 people down with it, too.

You could ask the parents of those students if they’re going to keep their kids home or keep the schools open.

Interpreting the actions of any government, some of which are totalitarian regimes, tells us absolutely nothing about the scientific facts I’m talking about. Spewing a +2% mortality rate as FACT is simply idiotic without a scientific serosurvey backing that statement up. Period.

All the data we have so far seems to corroborate that number. I think governments are responding to it as if it's true. What we have so far also seems that up to 20% of those who get the virus end up being sick enough to be hospitalized. THAT is what I really think they're worried about.

The problem is that ‘all of the data we have so far’ is meaningless. Every single epidemiologist will agree. When you say 2%, you are simply guessing. It is NOT fact!

When all is said and done and the real mortality rate is factually known, that number will be much much lower. There may be tens of millions of mild or asymptomatic cases that are completely unknown at this time.
