Japan is to ask all schools to close from Monday to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, PM Shinzo Abe says.
The closure - thought to affect 13 million students - will continue until the school year ends in late March.
World Health Organization head Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus said the global outbreak had now reached a "decisive point" and had "pandemic potential".
For the second day running, more cases have been reported outside than inside China.
Dr Tedros urged governments to act swiftly and aggressively to contain the virus.
"This is not a time for fear. This is a time for taking action to prevent infection and save lives now," he said. ...

I seem to be missing something here. I understand that this flu is extremely contagious. But, the statistics seem to say it’s the flu. It’s not the plague, it’s not inoperable cancer, it’s the flu.
Have we come to the point in time where the mere mention of a contagious variant of flu causes panic? Or is there something unique about corona?

I heard on the radio that there is only 60 people in the United States that have the coronavirus.
60 out of 330 million. Stock market way down.
The flu is far more deadlier.
The common cold as well then this coronavirus.
The death rate with coronavirus is 20 to 30 times higher than the flu. It’s also hospitalizing a large percent of the people who get it. 20-25%. So it has the potential to overwhelm hospitals. Had a 3 week hospital bill lately?
Of course it’s new and nobody has immunity to it yet. So if it hangs around year after year, eventually the rate could drop.
I wonder if that applies to private schools, also...
Language schools, tech colleges, etc.
The market doesn’t care, right now, about the cases in the US.
The market does care about the supply chain destruction from China.
Making China a single point of failure for our economy was a really bad idea.

I think this is due to the economic disruption that is headed our way due to effect on China.
I'm ordering another part today from China - can't get anywhere else new. A few days ago, ordered a small muffin fan that spins in telecomm gear 24x7 to keep the chassis cool - the gear wile in service will be in service 6-7 years.
It's not cheap junk - they are precision made and have to be durable to run that long.
Could they be made in the US? I wish they were. I'd even pay more if they were.
