Theres definitely something like that happening. It seems that people who havent had to face any real challenges or hard work while growing up are the ones who have a strong disdain for the country as it was founded.
Perhaps this is how they seek to ease the ennui that comes with a life of relative ease. Or, maybe they are seeking a grand purpose to rise above the mediocrity of their lives without having to invest the time and energy that greatness requires.
Your thoughts are pretty close to mine, but I think they aren’t trying to better themselves, even in their own mind. They are just feeling guilty about being in the select group in the greatest country that has ever existed (IMO).
