Seems to have a fairly high survival rate.

If anyone can determine this to be a manufactured bioweapon, I think China should be nuked.

Add 3-to-6 000s to those numbers, and they’ll be more accurate.

From that first ‘batch’ of Bavarians (with that car parts company), they ran through it with no serious issues. One of their guys had 102.5 temp for around two days and two days later....felt well enough to go back to work. His doc kept him home for another couple of days.

If you have a normal immune system, non-smoker status, and under 65...this is just a serious flu-like situation where you probably stay home for seven to fourteen days. Someone with serious issues already, or lung problems, your health is seriously at risk.

The Maharishi made a good point yesterday, that the Chicom leader found a way to shut down Hong Kong and the protest. Now they can pull anyone they want off the street.

There is something very interesting about the outbreak in Italy. The region of Italy where the outbreak is centered has a high population of Chinese immigrants and guest workers who provide much of the labor for the garment industry. Are the Italians who are becoming infected and seriously ill really Chinese? Not politically correct to ask or speculate. However it may very well be that Caucasians and Africans are not as susceptible for infection or serious disease as are genetic Asiatics. That is not a narrative that WHO wants propagated.

Genetic susceptibilities of a given population determine where and to what extent any given epidemic will extend. It would appear that some Persians have the genetic susceptibility to COVID-19.

It is also the perfect blame for corruption and their other problems.

Seems like the mortality rate is 1-3%. The flu is around 0.05%

Not good.

Also, flu has a transmission window of about 1-3 days. A person can only spread it before being symptomatic for a day or two. Then they suffer for about 3-5 days and then it’s a short recovery for most people. The Coronavirus seems to hit a person for longer and has a longer window.

Sure, you’ll likely survive but you’ll be waylaid for a week or two easily. With apparently only 80% of infections being considered mild and the other 20% requiring medical treatment.

The bad thing about this virus seems to be how subtle and long lasting it is.

Actually, there are enough cases to the contrary that I would remove “under 65” from that. While the old with missing lung capacity are at increased risk, there are unfortunately more than a few cases where young adults and the middle aged didn’t make it. There may also be some cases where those with normal immune systems are experiencing a cytokine storm, but I haven’t seen enough reports of that to say if it’s a common feature.

The remaining items on your list seem more or less correct to me from the reports I’ve read. Those with reduced or missing lung function/capacity due to smog, smoking or both are going to be the most screwed and likely to die from this.

Out of a much greater pool of infected. Percentage wise, coronavirus is a better killer.

I noticed a Brit doctor talking over the limited numbers of young kids with the virus. Chinese numbers (can’t be verified or really trusted) says that kids are not in the seriously affected group, but if it’s true....there’s some kind of lung capacity that they have...getting through the roughness of this.

I expect a lot more data from the South Koreans and Japanese as this develops....more reliable stuff that can predict better outcomes.

I did notice a comment from a Chinese comedian (probably from 2017)...he talked about this aversion of Chinese people to hospitals and questioning Chinese doctors. They wouldn’t show up to a hospital until they were seriously ill. If he was correct, that might also be part of the higher rate of death in China.

Chicken Little. If 1 in 1 Billion get something and they die from it, is that worth worrying more about that 1 in a 1000 but 1% die from it?

Which kills more?

Which is the bigger threat to the typical person living?

Death Statistics from the third world are a joke... Apples and Bicycles.

Asia, even India and most of China, let alone N Korea, are largely 3rd world at best in their medical delivery...

So, just because something has a high death rate in China does not mean that its going to have a high death right outside of it.

Folks need to stop chicken little-ing so much.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
