At the Republican convention, it came to a fight between Theodore Roosevelt(Republican President from 1901 to 1909) and William Howard Taft the incumbent Republican President. When Roosevelt lost, he went off in a huff and formed his own party (Bull Moose Party) and run for President against Taft and Democrat Woodrow Wilson, a three way race.
He split the Republican vote so naturally Woodrow Wilson the Democrat won. We should be so lucky.
