Maybe so in China, but younger people in the U.S. and most other countries tend to go into more crowds, they commute on mass transit, trains, aircraft, subways much more than older folks, they have to go to work, meetings, travel on business when they have no choice etc etc. While most older folks can just stay home and stay somewhat isolated if need be.

If that is true, then it may well be that the virus is weaponized, but against their own people.

One of the biggest issues facing China is their aging population, due to the one-child policy.

One way to prop up their economy would be to kill off their (economically non-productive) elderly, in a plausibly deniable way.

Last I heard - cases outside China had about a 0.7 mortality rate...the fear mongers point to the rare “young, healthy” person that they really know nothing about to make it scarier.
