No Bernie, Denmark is Not a Socialist Utopia
American Thinker ^ | 02/24/2020 | Brian Joondeph

Posted on 02/24/2020 6:50:43 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Socialist/communist presidential candidate Bernie Sanders loves to sing the praises of a small Scandinavian country, Denmark. It seems he has fallen out of love with his previous favorite countries, the Soviet Union and Cuba, which he “warmly praised” in the late 1980s.

After spurning the USSR, the country he spent his honeymoon in, shirtless, singing along drunkenly with his fellow communist comrades, he has moved on to northern Europe as representing his idea of utopia.

As CNN reported about Bernie’s newfound love,

Open a newspaper on any given day here in this small Europe nation known for high taxes, generous government services and its stubbornly happy citizens, and you'll almost certainly find a story about the U.S. presidential election.

"I think we should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway," Sanders said, "and learn what they have accomplished for their working people."

Danes may indeed be happy, but they bristle at being called socialists.

"I would like to make one thing clear," Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said recently in a speech at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. "Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy."

That hasn’t deterred Bernie, however. At a recent Democrat debate he proclaimed, "We should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway, and learn from what they have accomplished for their working people."

So, what’s the magic in Denmark? Denmark is the second happiest country in the world, just behind Finland, according to CNN Travel. The US sits in 19th place. If you watch a Trump rally, you would find nothing but happiness.

Even Anderson Cooper’s soft ball interview with Bernie Sanders reveals Bernie’s extremism.

See here:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bernie-sanders-democratic-presidential-candidate-anderson-cooper-60-minutes-2020-02-23/

(EXCERPT)

Cooper: Two-thirds of Democrats in the Senate have not signed on to Medicare for All, which would cost an estimated $30 trillion to $40 trillion over ten years. And that’s just one of Bernie Sanders’ many proposals. There’s also free public college, cancellation of all student debt, a federal job guarantee, and a Green New Deal to rapidly reduce carbon emissions.

How much will that cost?

Sanders: Obviously, those are expensive propositions, but we have done our best on issue after issue— in paying for them.

Cooper: Do you know how all— how much though? I mean, do you have a price tag for— for all of this?

Sanders: We do. I mean, you know, and— and— the price tag is— it will be substantially less than letting the current system go. I think it’s about $30 trillion.

Cooper: That’s just for Medicare for All, you’re talking about?

Sanders: That’s just Medicare for All, yes.

Cooper: Do you have— a price tag for all of these things?

Sanders: No, I don’t. We try to— no, you mentioned making public colleges and universities tuition free and cancelling all student debt, that’s correct. That’s what I want to do. We pay for that through a modest tax on Wall Street speculation.

Cooper: But you say you don’t know what the total price is, but you know how it’s gonna be paid for. How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?

Sanders: Well, I can’t— you know, I can’t rattle off to you ever nickel and every dime. But we have accounted for— you— you talked about Medicare for All. We have options out there that will pay for it.

Really great how much more money they have to blow on social programs and infrastructure when the USA pays for the umbrella protecting them from harm.

I have a friend whose son spent a college semester as an exchange student in Denmark. He said everything was horrifyingly expensive.

I can’t remember her name but she wrote children’s books. Generally, individuals are subject to national income tax, municipal tax, regional tax, labour market tax, and church tax. I’m sure Bernie could add to that list.

"I think we should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway," Sanders said

Fine, let's look at them - two out of the three are NATO members and the third is closely affiliated with NATO. All fall under the umbrella of protection provided since the end of WWII by US taxpayers.

Funding socialist waste is far easier when you don't need to contribute much to your own defense. Unfortunately, US taxpayers are already busy paying for other countries socialist bungling - we can't afford to pay for our own.

Kinda funny how Sanders is singing the praises of countries that are comprised almost completely of White Europeans and where there is little diversity

Proof Sanders is a communist.

Socialism at least recognizes all these gov’t programs/giveaways must be paid for via taxes on the productive.
Communism doesn’t care about paying for anything, it assumes people will be productive and whatever they produce will be redistributed.

Bernie shows no interest in identifying costs of programs nor sources of revenue to pay for it; ergo he’s a communist, simply declaring that whatever is needed will be taken from those producing it (and utterly failing to explain why anyone will produce anything beyond their own family’s needs).

“He said everything was horrifyingly expensive.”

That’s probably because of the filthy VAT tax of 25% on top of whatever you buy and about 10 clams/gallon of gas. As usual, it’s the government’s fault that everything is so high.

Indeed, countries where productivity is culturally normalized and community is deeply (over centuries) ingrained. ...and word from “man on the street” is those countries are rotting from the core because of the imposed socialist systems, the colorful cultures turning gray because nobody is allowed to succeed.

I watched that 60 minutes interview last night, mostly because I was interested in their segment on the downing of Malaysia Flight 17 they were doing. I accidentally tuned in early and caught the Bernie stuff.
He gets so testy when asked any specific question about funding, price, etc.... He’s completely out of touch when it comes to understanding obstacles he will face trying to implement the ideas he’s proposing. Even the state that put him in the senate didn’t have the constitution to absorb the tax increases he proposed.
He is just so aloof when it comes to working with anyone, even his own party, which he is known to continually brow beat. Much less what it would take, assuming he could get the votes to pass the house and senate, to implement his systems and get them past all the supreme court challenges.
His main retort whenever pressed or presented with facts from experts, about any topic, is to call them a shill for the AMA, or a shill for big pharma, or a shill for (insert whatever expert organization he disagrees with).
And his remarks on Castro probably just cost him the entire state of Florida. Assuming he gets the nomination, I doubt there is a path for him to win without Florida. There’s a million plus voting block of Cuban American’s that will not at all look kindly on those words. No small block of people. Those sounds bites will be in heavy rotation once he officially becomes the candidate.

What a freaking maroon. I can't wait to vote for this idiot in the Maryland primary. Trump will eat his lunch on the debate stage.

It’s not as many as you would think, they are just extremely criminalized so they get a lot of press outside Sweden. In Sweden, they aren’t allowed to talk about it

RE: It’s not as many as you would think, they are just extremely criminalized so they get a lot of press outside Sweden.

FROM Wikipedia:

A 2017 Pew Research report documents Muslim population at 8.1% of the total population of Sweden of 10 million (approximately 810,000).

You don’t think that’s many?

MALMO, the third largest city in Sweden is already 16% Muslim ( one in Six Inhabitants ).

See here:
