I was in Goreme - central Turkey - and an American woman in her 40’s from Colorado Springs was staying in the same hostel.
She had studied belly dancing in the states and came to Turkey to see the pros.
She hooked up with a married shop keeper in town. He hosted her at big dinners with his employees at his shop (think backyard bar-b-ques). She darn well knew he was married. He made no secret of it. He made no secret from his family and his staff that he was shagging her. And she was fine with all that.
Would she do this back in Colorado Springs? I doubt it.
What about “looking out for the sisterhood”? Ha!
So why was it OK in a foreign land?
Had a long conversation on a bus ride with a young (20ish) Turkish man. He was on his way to start a new job at a tourist hotel. He was really excited - ‘because tourist women came to Turkey to have sex with Turkish men’. He was firmly convinced of this. Did not want to believe me that this was not true. Unfortunately, because it is partially true - there are some women that do indeed go to Turkey to hookup. Sad, rare, but true.
