A former co-worker of mine once took a business trip to India. He said that the contrast between rich and poor was striking. Beautiful grand hotels, and you’d look out the window at the empty lot next door where a poor mother was giving her children a bath in a mud puddle.
I’ve heard the same about India. The road from the airport to hotel, and hotel to sites like the Taj Majal is a journey from first world to dire third world. From the 9th century to today.
Shocking.
Yup.
I find it amazing that no-one seems to be bothered by the misery of their countryman.
My sister went to India (she knew nothing about India before hand) I gave her a hundred dollars and instructed her to seek out 5 'untouchables' and give each $20.00 in secret. Once there, and after learning about the 'untouchables', she (quietly) gave out $100.00 from her too.
I know, I'm a soft touch....I rescue dogs too.
