I can think of Democrats who could beat Trump, were any of them still alive: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Harry Truman, JFK.

Any living Democrats? No.

It’s very simple.

Trump sided with the citizens and the rule of law.

They are talking about old elections, times have changed and the pendulum has swung back to where policy, platform, and ideology and do matter.

It can be boiled down to one word: charisma. Either you have it or you don’t have it.

Trump has it. His opponents don’t.

No, history says... almost impossible for a sitting president to lose re-election in a strong economy.. not only this but with only 1 historical example to the contrary (Obama). Odds are Trump will win re-election by far more votes than he won his first term with.

Odds of a Democrat, any democrat, winning th me White House in 2020 are incredibly slim.

Politics as it applies to Presidential elections is completely different in this day and age as opposed to anything before about 2000.

The Media, which has been Left Wing as far back as I can remember used to be able to almost 100% control all we would know about a candidate. Our opinions and therefore our vote was determined in a very large part by the newspapers and network anchors.

Today the lock on news distribution has been broken and citizens have access to an unending supply of news to glean information from. Of course some is pure propaganda but some is not and the very fact there is so much makes it possible for folks who want to know the truth to find it with a bit of work.

Donald Trump has direct contact with something over 100,000,000 people with his various social accounts. It is obvious why the Left so badly wants him to stop his tweeting.

This article says anyone with a likable personality can beat Trump but that isn’t true in this, a re election campaign for a man with an identifiable and envious record of accomplishment.

It’s politics so anything can happen but I see no one running against DJT or in the Dem Party who can out Trump Donald J Trump.

I am more afraid woketards will vote for “Mayor Pete” for the same reason so many voted for the black guy last time around: “to be a part of something historic”, and to prove to other woketards they are not “homophobic”. We end up with a sodomite President and the Lord will surely turn away from our nation.

Pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo masquerading as a way to sell books.

This will be in the $1 bin at Wally world in 6 weeks.

Most women and low IQ people vote for personality. To me that means Trump wins because he’s a winner. The rest of us vote our personal beliefs whether for good or evil.

Trump’s “personality” wouldn’t have won him anything if he were championing issues that didn’t resonate with enough people in the right time and place.

Trump’s “fight back and never apologize to people who hate you” personality was a BONUS.

It’s what he promised to DO that got his voters excited.

“Can Any Democrat Beat Trump?”

His animal metaphor fails to answer his question, since he casts most of the Democrat candidates as at least part “eagle”. In a contest between two eagles, an eagle wins. Not very informative.

In any case, all the Democrat polls show that each and every one of them would easily beat Trump. Why are they at all worried?

Good article. Except for this...

Obama, for example, is equal parts Eagle and Dove.

To think Obammie had any eagle qualities is laughable.

HAve both authors of this article, Merrick Rosenberg and Richard Ellis , ever attended a Trump rally?

I would say they have NOT.

They are bloviating as if its politics as usual and have not really gone through a necessary paradigm shift. The history they speak of does NOT apply here. Its all new territory.

Can Any Democrat Beat Trump? Personality and History Say Maybe

Americans voted Barak Obama into office and nearly voted in Hillary Clinton. Take nothing for granted, don't get complacent, and vote - the signs are good for November, but Hillary was saying the same thing in February 2016.

Anybody believe, with America's Founders and Framers of its Constitution, in that "Divine Providence" of the Declaration of Independence?

Personality may be part of it, just like money, platform, etc. But like money, it matters only when there is a substantial difference in the two sides.

Would anybody hire one commie democrat on that debate platform to run their business? Including non democrat socialist Sanders and mega dollars Bloomberg. The impression I have gotten of all of the commie democrats being featured by the media for any elective office is that they just are not smart people. No depth of knowledge about this Republic and our government. They are all unimpressive and their debates are pitiful but do show their mentality and how far from allegiance to the constitution they have gone. One of these low level intelligence commie democrat candidates will be chosen to be the alternative to reelecting Pres Trump. No Trump Rinos are willing to help make that happen. Republicans have to be careful of all candidates for office when choosing who to support this Nov. Pres Trump will win but he needs loyal supporters in congress to help him.

Bernie currently has the momentum to get the nomination. Bloomberg despite spending millions on slick ads gave a poor performance in the debate and the resentment of the other candidates that he bought his way in will work against him. Biden is going through the motions of running, but is all but out of the race. Warren is too much like Hillary and comes off shrill and phony. Mayor Pete not really ready for prime time. Klobuchar looks and sounds like the Amway lady...another Mondale.

Bernie will come into the convention with a big block of delegates, but maybe not enough to win on the first ballot. Party officials and the old guard Democrats know Bernie cannot win against Trump. However unlike 2016 when Hillary was the obvious alternative and Bernie was denied the nomination by back room deals, in 2020 there is no clear alternative. The Bernie supporters also will not tolerate another back room deal to deny their candidate and may well take to the streets of Milwaukee.

Democrats have the unfortunate choice of letting Bernie run and suffer another McGovern blow out in November or risk fracturing the party by picking someone else including some dark horse. Neither scenario is likely to put a Democrat in the White House.

Does Trump have the win sewn up? ...there are always unexpected things that could happen to prevent Trump from getting a second term, but at this point I don’t see any possible Democrat candidate winning. Even Trumps impeachment and Russia investigation did not drop him in the polls and seem to have only emboldened his supporters. Look at Trump’s rallies even in blue states where he attracts enthusiastic standing room only crowds and compare them to the lack luster gatherings in support of the other candidates who garner sometimes only a few hundred faithful. My bet is Trump will win handily in November.
