A new law in Cambridge encourages police officers not to arrest unlicensed drivers in an effort to protect undocumented immigrants from having their information shared with federal immigration officials.
The City Council voted Monday to pass the Welcoming Community ordinance, which directs officers to summons unlicensed drivers instead of arresting them whenever possible. The ordinance also prohibits the Cambridge police from: inquiring about a person’s immigration status; initiating an investigation or take law enforcement action based on a person’s immigration status; arresting or detaining a person due to an ICE detainer or administrative warrant; initiating investigations or taking law enforcement action on the sole basis of actual or perceived immigration status; and from taking part in federal immigration enforcement operations.

Cambridge police will still be able to assist in federal human trafficking operations, according to the ordinance. The ordinance also does not prohibit the police from sharing information about a person’s immigration status with the federal government.
“Nothing in this section [on federal requests for information] shall prohibit or restrain an officer or employee of the Cambridge Police Department from sending to, or receiving from, any local, state, or federal agency, information regarding citizenship or immigration status, consistent with 8 U.S.C. §1373,” the ordinance states.
However, when officers stop someone for driving without a license, they must give the person an opportunity to find someone who can come to the scene to pick them up and drive the vehicle away. (snip)

A born American should sue the city for discrimination the first time they get a ticket for driving without a license.
Because the President has let this sort of insurrection go on for 3+ years now, it gets worse every day.
The Police are supposed to let the driver contact a licensed driver to come and drive the car.
Th4 next day the stopped river will presumablkyn just start driving again.

I suspect this would be a violation which I would expect would also affect insurance rates?
If Illegals are not subjected to these same penalties as citizens is that not un-equal protection?

When one of these unlicensed drivers, drunk or not, kills someone in an accident, the victim’s family should sue those passing this ordinance.
Or hang them from a lamppost. Whichever.
They’ve been letting them go for 15 years or more.
And a stern warning for one’s first murder!

So would this apply to us legal U.S. citizens, if we operate a vehicle on the road without a drivers license we just get a ticket?
The libertarian in me wants to travel unobstructed by government, and never asked to, "Show us your papers." The same logic applies to voting. ID for private transactions, I would consider. But the government's only job is to protect our nation and the rights of citizens. The solution for current illegal is simple. Deport their asses and make them get back in line and immigrate lawfully.
The government does not need to know who I am to protect my rights.

When I was 17 I was pulled over and told I couldn’t drive my car because the registration had expired. Fortunately, I was at a gas station and able to call home from a pay phone.. Fortunately, someone was home and could come pick me up.
I NEVER let my registration lapse again!!
