I would appoint a Special Counsel directly if I were him. the Justice Dept is incapable of doing this in these present circumstances.

Who to trust as AG?
Might be a good shake up to make Barr SC, assuming he's open to the reassignment. But generally speaking, SC is a mistake. SC from inside DOJ will whitwash all DOJ malfeasance, and SC from within the government will likely "flip" and run a get-Trump operation.
Fitton is absolutely right. I wouldn’t mind if Barr quit. He thinks his job is to protect the DOJ. F him. Mitch may not give Trump a recess appointment but nothing can stop Trump from naming an interim who will actually do something.
