McConnell didn’t want witnesses because it was bad for the GOP Senators like Collins and Gardner. Witnesses bring viewers. His calculation on witnesses had exactly nothing to do with POTUS.

Frankly, it’s obvious he couldn’t care less about POTUS and has done exactly nothing to help Trump fight against the coup. In fact he has enabled it time and again. In this interview he kneecapped President Trump’s position. With Republicans like that who needs Democrats?
