The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

That’s in a city that has something like 11 million people in its metropolitan area. That doesn’t seem all that serious, but they seem to be acting like it’s a lot bigger. Per capita, Chicago has probably had that many gang murders over the past few weeks.

Our policy should probably be to assume a really bad scenario, since the Chinese probably don’t even have the truth.

I talked to a friend yesterday who had worked as an EMT for fifteen years. He said in all the pictures and videos he's seen of people being treated in China he hasn't seen anyone who has a connection to oxygen either with a tube and nostril piece or a mask. It struck him as unusual.

He said he had seen bad cases of flu routinely put on oxygen as part of standard treatment if they were ill enough to be hospitalized.

Anyone know if oxygen for hospitalized flu patients is unusual or fairly common?

That really doesn’t agree with the official Chinese government death toll numbers. 100 bodies a day in one city should really be pumping up the number of death numbers.

Oh, that would be bad for business and panic the Chinese people into thinking their government was not protecting them.

The death rate in china is about 7.7 people per 1.000 people per year.

Wuhan has 11,000,000 people, millions more than New York

11,000,000 divide by 1,000 times 7.7 dethe peer 1,ooo people equals 84,700 deaths a year to be expected in Wuhan.
Divide that by 365 days in a year equals 232 deaths a day normal in Wuhan.

So cremating 100 bodies a day may not be that unusual. -Tom
