“I was talking to a black coworker a few months ago, and he was ranting about how corrupt the city government is, and the police, and blaming it on Republicans. He just locked up like he’d gone into a coma when I pointed out that the city he lives in hasn’t had a non-Democrat as mayor or in any elected city office, or on the city council, in over 50 years.”
This is appallingly common among voters — and non-voters— black and white.
The reference to his being black wasn’t gratuitous. Part of the conversation was about black folk being ill-treated by the city and police department.
