Nikki van den Heever, a caucus precinct captain for former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, tried to talk down an Iowa woman who was incensed to find out — in real-time during a caucus after she’d signed a card supporting him — that the candidate is openly gay.
“Are you saying that he has the same-sex partner? Pete?” the woman says in the clip, which was posted to both Twitter and Reddit early Tuesday morning.
“Yes,” van den Heever responds.
“Are you kidding?” the woman says, and upon being told Mayor Pete is married, says “Then I don’t want anybody like that in the White House. So can I have my card back?”
“I don’t know, you signed it. We could go ask,” van den Heever says, then tells the woman, “The whole point of it is, though, he’s a human being, right? Just like you and me and it shouldn’t really matter…”
“Well he better read the Bible,” the woman — who is wearing buttons in support of Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar — says.
“He does, and he says that God doesn’t choose a political party because…” van den Heever says, as the woman interrupts to ask, “Why does it say in the Bible that a man should marry a woman then?”
“Well I totally respect your viewpoint on this, I so totally do, but I think that we were not around when the Bible was written,” van den Heever replies.
“How come this is never been brought out before?” the woman asks.
The precinct captain tries to convince the woman that we’re all human beings and says she’ll check on the status of her signed card.
Mayor Pete and his husband Chasten Buttigieg were on the cover of Time magazine in May.

Reply to post 15, before I even started reading the comments, I had the same thought. This is a set-up, staged moment to garner support and anger at the same time.

She supported Amy and then when Amy wasn’t viable she was told that the gay guy was closest to her with policy. Since she was an Amy voter it’s possibly she really knew nothing about the others. Lately the gay guy hasn’t been talking much about it.
And you know that how?
Given the likely makeup of that room, her gaydar must be broken.
Donald Trump is a human being too, right? So why do his moral indiscretions matter so much to his enemies? After all, whatever his faults, he is not a sexual deviant, a proud , practicing sodomist.

Definitely staged. Caucus with Dems and you’ll see a lot of shenanigans (and, admittedly, it’s kinda fun watching). Seems to me this one was meant to hurt Klobucher and Buttigeig cuz they were reported as gaining in the polls a few days back. My money is on a Bernie supporter.
This women will be ruined by th MSM but now everyone will learn the truth in the process if they didn’t already know.

The Woman claiming the views are differences of interpretation is nonsense... You cannot read the Bible, in any way, any way, and come up with God approves of homsexuality.
Live and let live yes, sinners are fee to live in sin, and they should be treated with human dignity and respect, but to try to claim “love is love” so its okay morally, is nonsense.
I gotta agree, even though it sounds far fetched.
Even IF she does believe gay “marriage” is wrong..she’s a dem..she wouldn’t ardently go at it like that.

BUT there’s always the chance that she’s so lost and ignorant that she doesn’t know what her party stands for and that pete is married.
Yeah there’s some here who think in either direction.
I couldn’t get a gauge from watching it.
And like one FReeper said, 10 percent of women don’t even know that theirs is the party of abortion. And gay marriage.
We think of politics in terms of folks like us that follow it closely. Or at least a little!
If mom voted D back in the 60s and told her daughter that’s how we vote, i wouldn’t rule out the possibility of someone just blindly voting D their whole life.
