Stocks fell sharply on Friday, wiping out the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s gain for January, as investors grew increasingly worried about the potential economic impact of China’s fast-spreading coronavirus.
The Dow dropped 603.41 points, or 2.1%, to 28,256.03 in the 30-stock average’s worst day since August. The S&P 500 had its worst day since October, falling 1.8% to 3,225.52. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.6% to 9,150.94...
The coronavirus is a very, very good reason for President Trump to suspend trade with China.

Just one little problem - because of the last two administrations, most of the manufacturing behind the medications sold in the US (and Mexico and Canada) are currently in China and the US pharmaceutical industry has little US production capacity. Trump started a program to fix that some time ago, but it hasn’t had time to produce results yet.

It would be good to get off the China habit and people *are* trying to spool up US production facilities, but all that takes time. You can no more wave a wand and make a fully-fledged and operational factory appear overnight than I can email you printer ink.
For right now, until we can get our own production up, we rather do need China a bit.

Same here. It’s been painful. Across the board too - health/pharmco, telecom, etc.
The only thing keeping me from a real buttkicking is respectable amount of my portfolio is in bond and corporate preferred securities.
