THE STATE OF THINGS FOR DEMS: GLOOMY & GETTING GLOOMIER
Powerline ^ | JANUARY 25, 2020 | STEVEN HAYWARD

It’s still early and things can change fast, but several new polls show Bernie Sanders surging in Iowa and New Hampshire as well as nationally, as Warren continues to stumble, Biden continues to unimpress, and Buttigieg continues to ignore the propeller beanie hat stuck to his head.

If Sanders sweeps Iowa and New Hampshire and surges in South Carolina and Nevada, he could become well nigh unstoppable.

The problem for Democrats is that taking down Bernie might well ensure they lose the election because lots of Bernie bros won’t vote for Joe Biden or the other powdered milk substitutes. We know a significant portion of Bernie voters in 2016 ended up voting for Trump in November. What might happen this year? A recent Emerson College poll found that only 53 percent of current Bernie voters said they would definitely support another Democratic nominee. The NY Times offers this typical anecdote from the campaign trail:

Elsewhere on the increasingly broad Democratic spectrum, Pete Doyle, who attended a Sanders rally in Manchester, N.H., last weekend, had a ready answer when asked about voting for Mr. Biden: “Never in a million years.” He said that if Mr. Biden won the nomination, he would either vote for a third-party nominee or sit out the general election.

Even worse news: the latest YouGov “generic ballot” poll for the House, which had showed a solid Democratic advantage, is now showing only a 1 point Democratic edge over Republicans. And Trump’s approval rating is near its highest level since he took office, along with new survey data showing the satisfaction with the state of the nation at its highest level in 15 years. The raw number—41 percent—may not seem like much to cheer about, but its the kind of number that gets presidents re-elected.

Bernie cannot win against Trump. However, he is most likely to get the nomination at this point. None of the other (Dem candidates) have inspired.

This sets the stage for AOC in 2024 as the nominee - believe it or not. There are no other Democrats that can compete with her IMO.

I hope that the Republicans can find another candidate like Trump. Right now, I don't see anybody.

There was considerable ass kicking by our side inside the $inate and across the land.

Wonder if Pelosi and Schumer might try a fadeaway and sneak home, rather than face more losses next week.

“And guess who will be constitutionally eligible to run for president in 2024? (Hint: Her initials are AOC.)”
Well, there you go. THAT explains a lot.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////

It’s almost as if some powerful figures behind the scenes in the Deep State planned for the bartender to run and win and within days become the policy speech maker equal to Cabinet members, the Speaker, and Vice President, closely behind Trump himself. During the first term as a member of Congress and formerly unknown.

Just like an unknown first term Senator who was Chicago welfare entitlement rabblerouser for ghetto crowds but suddenly was a “community organizer” and the next President!! At the Dem Convention I remember the soundbite of a woman comparing Obama to John Adams “another community organizer” to huge applause. Sheesh.

Bernie is like Trump in that he is an outsider

Like a baseball pitch outside to the left but in Sanders' case it's way outside, past the brat vendor and the parking lot pedestrian ramp.

Ask him to step on a Communist flag in public and to denounce Stalin. And to pledge allegiance to our flag.Try it.

Hand him a rag, he'll be sweating profusely.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
In the light of experience, history would have gone just the same if the minimum age had been set to forty years; IMHO it would be wise to amend the Constitution to require that any president (or VP) be forty five or fifty years old.

I would add that all legislators should be at least thirty five years old - that is, should have had to worked in the “private sector” for a dozen years.

I watched the Journal Editorial Report this afternoon. They were pretty good on today's performance by the President's team in the Senate, but when it came to talking about Joe Biden they cited the polls that make him appear to be the strongest Democratic candidate against Trump (of course the Biden people are running ads touting those polls), and did not say anything about the recent revelations about Biden that Laura Ingrahm has been covering the past few evenings. It's as if those revelations will have no impact on his chances of winning.

That program will probably be rebroadcast on the Fox Business channel tomorrow at 8 a.m. ET and again at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. (if not pre-empted by "breaking news").

The Rats are having their news media do the job of thinning the herd. Witness the CNN hatchet job on Bernie. And witness the House impeachment managers mention Biden in connection to scandal over 200 times in one day.
