The Trump administration is coming out with new visa restrictions aimed at restricting birth tourism," in which women travel to the U.S. to give birth so their children can have a coveted U.S. passport.
The State Department planned to publicize the rules Thursday, according to two officials with knowledge of the plans who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The rules would make it more difficult for pregnant women to travel on a tourist visa. In one draft of the regulations, they would have to clear an additional hurdle before obtaining the visa convincing a consular officer that they have another legitimate reason to come to the U.S.
The Trump administration has been restricting all forms of immigration, but the president has been particularly plagued by the issue of birthright citizenship - anyone born in the U.S. is considered a citizen, under the Constitution. He has railed against the practice and threatened to end it, but scholars and members of his administration have said it's not so easy to do.
Regulating tourist visas for pregnant women is one way to get at the issue, but it raises questions about how officers would determine whether a woman is pregnant to begin with, and whether a woman could get turned away by border officers who suspect she may be just by looking at her.
Consular officers right now aren't told to ask during visa interviews whether a woman is pregnant or intends to become so. But they would have to determine whether a visa applicant would be coming to the U.S. primarily to give birth.

If the ERA were to pass this would be summarily tossed out on its ear by the courts.
Something to consider.
Hahahahahahahahaha!
That meanie Trump, going to limit visas for Pregnant Woman! Orange Man Bad!
I had to laugh at the headline...so...Trump hates pregnant women!
We can if we refinance the welfare programs to be fully funded through special assessments on the Incomes and Assets of Public Employee’s and Officer’s of the Court.
Could be wrong, but I don’t think most pregnant women are coming for the full 9 months, minus the time it takes to know if their pregers or not.
I suspect it would be best if we take on the 14th Amendment when we take back the House.
Birthright citizenship should be limited to the children of U. S. Citizens, born on U. S. Soil in some manner. (Embassy grounds or Consulates, Army bases, and a few other possible situations)
GOOD!!!!!
Does this mean you can’t fax it in from Kenya?
anyone born in the U.S. is considered a citizen, under the Constitution.
Lie.
L
Needs to happen yesterday.
such a half-ass and confusing measure that will open up Trump to another attack .... just end birthright citizenship NOW!
If you read the 14th amendment using proper rules of the English language, they Are NOT US Citizens just because they were born here. The Problem is we have allowed Lawyers to redefine the English Language to fit their twisted little minds of deviant behavior and moral bankruptcy.
Pass the Original 13th Amendment and it all goes away!
“anyone born in the U.S. is considered a citizen, under the Constitution”
No they aren’t. The only reason “anyone” is considered a citizen is due to a policy directive within the State Department saying this for the purpose of issuing a passport.
The 14th Amendment says nothing of the sort as has been discussed here forever.
‘bout damm time this travesty ended.
Foreigners are not UnitedStates citizens !
I want the wall all across the border but the visa problem is just as important. Ankle braces.
There IS such a thing as Birth Tourism for the express purpose of getting subjects of one country into another.
Some want to say that women traveling to Saipan (Google "Birth Tourism Saipan" in this example) do so to avoid the penalties for more than the allowed births in China, but it is BS IMO.
They are doing it to have people with complete and total access to our society as adults. Say what you will about the Communist Chinese, they play the long game better than we do.
Good.
Who needs a bunch of foreign babies?
Go birf your little spawns where ever you came from.
Blocked by a leftist judge in 3....2....1.
I agree concerning the 14th, but as you say, it has become accepted law (of sorts).
I shouldn’t address the 13th, since I’m not familiar with why it could fix things. I appreciate the mention, and I’ll check it out.
I agree.
