Deployment to Kuwait. We had NO SOFA, thereby military had to act within Kuwati law. Kuwait was pretty tolerant of US presence and appreciated what we did for them.
McSally objected to having to cover-up while off base. I’m not talking about the entire raisin burka, but modestly dressing with legs and skin covered, and face could be seen.
This is where her “it’s all about me” fight started.
She objected to covering up (understandable), and instead of using the chain of command, to raise the issue (maybe force a SOFA), she went straight to a congressional complaint. Totally ignoring the chain and not giving the services to work on a solution, she complained direct to congress.
That exploded the world of female pilots in the mid-east, as well as setting the scene that SHE was above regulations, that she had no need to petition the military to make changes, she was soooo important that congress needed to get involved, that she wasn’t going to act in accordance with rules and regulations, and if she was denied AFTER the chain of command was engaged, THEN she could legitimately contact congress.
Of course, she made not many friends, male or female peers, because they viewed her action as self-serving.
Congress put on the pressure on Kuwait and the military to establish a SOFA.
The Air Force couldn’t pass her over for full colonel because she was “protected.” If they passed her over as leadership anticipated, another congressional would be filed by her, citing retribution for her congressional complaint.
Just to be clear. Even after all that, she is better than the worst democrat.
One last thing, generals are wishy-washy because when they are promoted to one-star they have a frontal lobotomy, and while the skull is open, “they” yank the spine out.
