Sounds like the Joint Chiefs disease had him by the ass. He would rather play politics than speak his peace. I was never impressed with him or when he did give advice. You break it you own it he tells Bush in Afghanistan? WTH! Everything in that crap hole was broke and has been broke for 40 yrs. Powell’s nation building idiocy still has us bogged down there and I can still not see one, one, coherent strategy for American victory and our departure in play there.

Yeah, he did. He was opposed to it at first, but then GHWB pulled rank on him and he (Powell) jumped on the band wagon to protect his “political viability.” Powell is the weakest of weak sisters, and EVERYTHING he gained throughout his career was due to politics and affirmative action. His rise within the military was strictly PC, as he was not what one would call a warrior. But, once you rise to a certain rank, pretty much every move after that is political.
