Bible in a Year:
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Wallace Stegners mother died at the age of fifty. When Wallace was eighty, he finally wrote her a noteLetter, Much Too Latein which he praised the virtues of a woman who grew up, married, and raised two sons in the harshness of the early Western United States. She was the kind of wife and mother who was an encourager, even to those that were less than desirable. Wallace remembered the strength his mother displayed by way of her voice. Stegner wrote: You never lost an opportunity to sing. As long as she lived, Stegners mother sang, grateful for blessings large and small.
The psalmist too took opportunities to sing. He sang when the days were good, and when they werent so good. The songs were not forced or coerced, but a natural response to the Maker of heaven and earth (146:6) and how He gives food to the hungry (v. 7) and gives sight to the blind (v. 8) and sustains the fatherless and the widow (v. 9). This is really a lifestyle of singing, one that builds strength over time as daily trust is placed in the God of Jacob who remains faithful forever (vv. 56).
The quality of our voices isnt the point, but our response to Gods sustaining goodnessa lifestyle of praise. As the old hymn puts it: Theres within my heart a melody.
How can you make singing praises to God a regular part of your day? Whats your favorite song of praise? Tell us why on our Facebook page.
Maker of heaven and earth, when I pause and reflect, Your provision for and protection of me is overwhelming. May my life be a continuous song of praise to You for as long as I live.
Hi Everybody!
(((HUGS)))
The weather was so nice today, that Penny, my sister, her grandson, and I went for a walk in the woods. Muddy, but fun! :-)
On the way home, I stopped in at “Trump 2020” and got a “BIKERS FOR TRUMP” T-Shirt.
Cold and windy here today. I hear it is cold, real cold not my cold, way up north there. I would hope everyone would have a nice mild winter.
It would be nice for someone to invent a lie detector for weather forecasters!!!
Shavua Tov.
Wishing all our Jewish troops, veterans, families, allies, friends, and Canteeners
a peaceful and prosperous week.
He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
God Bless our military men and women who have given their all.
Thanks, unique.
