Iran Blinks: Regime's flaccid retaliation sends a telling message
The Lowell Sun ^ | 01-09-2020 | Tom Shattuck

Iran's response to the killing of Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani was to put on a light show over several Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops.

It was just enough to show the people of Iran and the world that the regime was serious about responding to the attack but benign enough to signal to the United States that they were standing down, at least as a nation state.

The country of Iran is in real trouble. Sanctions have decimated the economy and there is great social unrest. Add to that the fact that their military mastermind -- the man who ran all of the state-sponsored, murderous militias -- was unceremoniously whacked in a drone attack just moments after flying into town on a commercial airliner.

"U.S. armed forces are stronger than ever before," he continued. "Our missiles are big, powerful, accurate, lethal and fast. Under construction are many hypersonic missiles."

President Trump finished his remarks on a more constructive note.

"The fact that we have this great military and equipment, however, does not mean we have to use it ... with the nations of the world. The United States is ready to embrace peace with all who seek it."

The terms are set. We shall see if this moment marks a pivotal change.

I think that those missiles Iran shot off were inaccurate and not designed to NOT hurt anybody. Either way it was lame. The one thing that the missiles did was to smoke out all the traitors in the media and Rat party.

The one who is crapping in his drawers right now is Little Kim.

In his mind now is the thought of POTUS just thinking he's had enough of NK shenanigans and decides to take him or his generals out.

I hope he is losing a lot of sleep over it.

As far as the Iranians and the rest of the world, a serious lesson was given to our enemies when Solimani got whacked.

We know where you are.
We know where you are going.
You can't hide.

The Trump Doctrine.

Yes. Trump has a big stick and is not afraid to use it.

I think those missiles were not inaccurate but targeted assuring that they missed. Iranians are peeing in their pants.

We’ve heard it many time “The only thing they respect is strength” and here is a prime example. Trump hit them so hard the Ayatollah was literally crying and you can bet they will be walking on eggshells around us from now on.

All this true being said but America is not consistent, it depends on the current administration which leaves us wobbly and at a disadvantage in the world when dealing with Russia and China or say, Iran.

The statements:

We know where you are.
We know where you are going.
You can’t hide.

All sound good but we are not consistent like our enemies.

The “you can’t hide” expression has been used by every President since Reagan and sometimes they carry this policy out but in most cases they wimp out.

One term it’s Appeasement, next President it’s playing hard ball followed by appeasement, then hardball again.

We just went through this cycle with Obama and now Trump.

This allows the evil forces out there to gain advantage over us and our allies. We need a consistently TOUGH policy with our enemies.

11 of 15 missiles hit the bases. Problem is the bases are pretty big. They keep this up, they’ll eventually get lucky. Not many bunkers can absorb the impact of a 2000 lb warhead. A lucky shot that results in a direct hit will see dozens of body bags being airlifted stateside.

Yes, this is the message: Donald Trump is a towering bastion of strength, morality, intelligence, puissance, and leadership.

History will record him as one of the greatest US Presidents--perhaps the greatest of all.

Like Greg Gutfield said recently:”Chanting ‘Death to America” is like Iran’s Pilates.”

The deranged Iranians do their Pilates every day, rain or shine. It’s their national past time.

LMAO

This nations policy is determined by the Administration of the time as you point out.

Perhaps one day the people who vote will understand that a foreign policy which brooks no aggression but encourages trade is really the best and looking at the respective political choices will make an informed decision based not on promises made today but on behavior in the past.

I think the Iranian Fireworks Show was just that ... a show.

Ballistic missiles are not simply lobbed into an area in hopes of hitting the target. Missiles of that type have elaborate guidance systems to make sure they hit what they’re aiming for. Artillery is cheaper and hits the target reliably, or so my Army friends tell me, and missiles simply have longer legs.

I believe the Iranian Fireworks gave the world a reason to say, “See, they tried!” and now the coverage will fade away and everybody will forget.

Like hell they will.

Activating “sleeper cells” takes time, one would expect. Instructions and updated target lists probably need to be delivered and long-hidden weapons must be hauled out of their storage places. You can’t throw a big party with just a few minutes notice.

A clutch of inaccurate missiles is not the end of the Iranian Affair. Not by a long shot.

They were inaccurate, but they had 1000 to 2000 lb warheads. The problem for them is that we can detect the launches and the trajectories pretty early, because we monitor ballistic missile launches all over the globe, for obvious reasons. So we had a pretty good idea of where they would land, and had everyone who needed to be in bunkers. 11 out of 15 missiles hit the bases. If just 1 had scored a direct hit, we’d have sustained dozens of dead.

The Iranians warned the Iraqis in advance of the bombing so everyone had time to get out of the way. It was a face saving attack only and Trump is letting them have it.

In an interview this morning, the Iranian ambassador to the U.N. said that Iran is not responsible for anything done by non-Iranian individuals (in reference to Iran’s proxies carrying out terrorist attacks on our people).

11 out of 15 missiles hit the bases. If 1 had hit the bunkers, dozens of Americans would be dead. We did not need any info from the Iraqis about the missile attacks. We have satellite feeds that monitor areas of concern 24 hours a day 365 days a year. When the Malaysian Airlines flight went down over Ukraine, we knew immediately that it was shot down and where the missile came from. The Iraqis were informed as a courtesy since it was in Iraq that the missiles would land.
