There is another reason why these fires are so devastating.

Eucalyptus trees are a major tree in Australia. Koalas ive on those leaves.

However——Eucalyptus trees are VERY oily in their makeup. They have a bark that sheds in strands as the tree grows, and the older trees are almost smooth in their bark.

In Southern California, the state has been cutting down eucalyptus trees due to this factor. They burn VERY strongly & the shards of bark fly a great distance, starting more fires.

I feel very sorry for everyone affected by these fires. A long time friend of mine is from Australia. I don’t know if his family has been impacted.

The devastation to wildlife has been the hardest to watch, for sure. :(
