Pope Francis apologizes for losing his patience after slapping woman’s hand

Pope Francis has apologized after he appeared to lose his cool when a woman violently grabbed his hand while he greeted pilgrims at the Vatican on New Year’s Eve.

A video that went viral on Twitter showed an unidentified woman abruptly grabbing Francis’ hand from behind a barrier and yanking him towards her just after he reached out to greet a child during a visit to the Vatican’s nativity scene on Tuesday night.

It seemed like the woman would not release Francis’ hand, so the pontiff slapped her hand before pulling his free. Frowning in anger, he turned and strode away.

Isn’t a pope supposed to be like God or something? If so, then he shouldn’t have to apologize for anything. (There’s a /s/ in there somewhere; not sure where.)

The pope is concerned about his optics.

>>>Isn’t a pope supposed to be like God or something?<<<

He is called the “vicar of Christ” which means “substitute for Christ.”

As someone posted a few posts up, he acted perfectly normal.

He did exactly what Jesus Christ did when the woman reached out and grabbed the hem of His garment. He beat her bloody and called her names also.

Evidently your translation reads, “And the woman grabbed His clothing and whipped Jesus around roughly.”

Mine doesn’t read that way.

The language was not acceptable. The actions were not out of line.

Jerking an 83 year old person around like that, is unacceptable. You should know that.

Does the pope not realize that there are millions of people in this world, especially many of an older age and many particularly from certain cultures, that were raised to believe that the pope or anything that has touched the pope is holy and literally has healing powers and can bring them all sorts of blessings? Why would he be in the least bit surprised that someone would reach out and grab him?

Yes he reacted the way any normal person would react, but he should not expect to be treated like a normal person.

If he is so frail he might want to consider avoiding huge crowds of worshipping, adoring sycophants in the future.

I am a practicing Catholic. I have nothing but contempt for the left wing Jesuit hack who sits on Peter’s throne. That said, I agree with you completely and I have no criticism of his actions in this case

If you watch the video -> she deserved more than a slap. She grabbed him as he had already turned and wouldn't let go.

I am no fan of the Pope ... but this apology was unwarranted. if you're going to apologize, imposter, apologize for the damage you've actually done, not for a light slap on the wrist of a woman who deserved a slap across the face.
