If you want to boil down what the Left REALLY wants with climate, I see it as a conglomeration of the following goals on their part.:

Destruction of capitalism and its mechanisms. Government will fill the void.
Destruction of National Sovereignty and the buffer it provides (in the case of the USA) against global tyranny.

Institution of Global Taxing Mechanisms. This goes hand in glove with the destruction of Sovereignty, and is a critical stepping stone to global governance and global tyranny.
Destruction of the Energy sector and its positive effects on industry, tourism.
The end to population growth by choking off the energy based means by which it happens. Where there is energy, there is light, jobs, heat, and transportation. By destroying the energy and limiting it at a global level, they mean to reduce the population.
Destruction of Religion and its replacement by a new religion, environmentalism.
Saving the Earth. This sounds great until you realize the earth itself, by them, is regarded as far more important than any human civilization, never mind a human individual. But the worst aspect of that pious goal is that they exempt themselves from it. They want to remove Capitalism, Sovereignty, Energy, Industry, and religion, all to save the earth, but they all assume they will be the ones remaining to enjoy what is left.

The last sentence is perhaps the one at the root of their evil. Every form of tyranny has an element of that, someone running the show who has to destroy everything and everyone else for their own good, both their own good as applied to those who are tyrannized and destroyed in the process, and their own good as applied to their positions in power and privilege.

We view our system (in America, at least) as a pie we can make bigger and bigger, and every single person can not only get a piece of that pie, every single person can work harder to get a larger piece, and the pie can get even bigger.

In THEIR system, there is only one pie, it is getting smaller, and they want to keep as much of it as possible for themselves while cutting out people they view as "useless eaters" who only consume, waste, and destroy their pie.
