Good reason not to ever kill a bad guy shooter. /S
That’s powerful faith. It is something to think about. But if it only involved my life ... and didn’t put others at risk.
My takeaway from this: I need more range time.
This is the John Piper video I was thinking of about whether Christians should carry guns:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo3IEWmsfNY
To be fair, I think he would be ok with carrying a gun to protect others. But he’s clearly uncomfortable with Christians carrying firearms.
Guess those words in red in his Bible about selling a cloak to acquire a sword dont have the same meaning for all believers.
People tend to ignore their gut feelings intending to be a nice person. I teach people to pay close attention to their gut. If it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t right.
I prefer the logic that not being armed has more to do with not being able to protect innocents who may or may not be saved, and focus on ending the threat (life if need be) of the unhinged and unsaved fruit loop dancing for the devil. I’d rather have his blood on my hands than that of those whom I may have been able to help survive, in this life and the next. Like my wife, children and grandchildren etc. They deserve a chance, the evil doer, not at all.
Pacifism is for those who expect other (god guys) not be.
I know that’s the way the defender who killed the perp feels about it—he said he was forced to remove the evil.
In re Piper I think the flaw in his reasoning is that he is refusing to defend others in the congregation which I believe is a sin of omission.
I dont doubt he is well intended
He can have that policy for one on one counseling. Let them murder him? But then the murderer remains free to kill again, still.
Same with letting a thief rob you or a man rape you. It sounds pious to let them (you also may have no choice) but letting them hurts their future victims. Resist evil.
Right and God nowhere tells us to be pacifists. Christianity is not pacifism.
As the brethren at White Settlement beautifully illustrated. God bless them.
Very tough to know in advance that someone is going to blow. We have weirdos show up at our church too! Jesus saves us weirdos. We wish to be welcoming and hospitable to all.
