Erasing all that knowledge from the past, it’s an amazing act of ignorance.

I don't think it's clear how much was actually destroyed - maybe a lot of things made their way to safety:

(You don't have to burn a library to destroy knowledge; you can do it by edict. They don't seem to teach American History in public schools, anymore.)

Libraries have discarded their old texts in America. Rather than fill multiple branches with specialized focus, they’d rather dump the books they don’t agree with, have half empty shelves, and stock the book of the month club selections picked by Oprah Winfrey.

I thought it was pretty well agreed that the destruction was devastating to the information of the past, to that point.

Ran into this on the internet when I Googled the burning of the library in around 50 BC.
