Berlin (AFP) - Little piggies go to market, but in Germany they also go to court.
In a legal first, animal rights activists have asked Germany's top court to ban the practice of castrating young male pigs without anaesthetic -- with the piglets themselves listed as the plaintiffs.
The painful procedure has become increasingly controversial in Europe and has been banned in Sweden, Norway and Switzerland.
Farmers argue that the castration of piglets a few days after birth is necessary to prevent "boar taint", the occasional occurrence of a foul smell when cooking pork from male pigs past puberty.

Once again, leftists who know nothing about animals hope to make laws governing animals.
This is the same for environmentalists (who know nothing about the environment) and gun control advocates.
The leftwing activist is uninformed, uneducated and ignorant....but they create laws and regulations that screw up life for this world.
I’m no expert, but this doesn’t seem to be an issue with deer...
Interesting how folks figure this out. I presume this cute factoid has been known awhile.
Gee Velma, that hog meat sure stinks!
Well Roy, why dont you just cut them balls off the piglets.
Sort of astounds me.
I guess the Animal rights lonies are ok with pulling their tusks without anaesthetics, right?
Or did I say too much?

You should study up on Capons... That’s one that will keep you baffled.
When I graduated college I went to work for Porcine Breeding stock company. Even with a Bachelors degree they started you out at the research/production farms for a year or so.
When working in the farrowing department, I used to castrate hundred of male pigs a day. The guy whose position I took over said that the faster you can do it, the less stress on the animal. I got so I could do 1 ever 6 seconds. Did 10s of thousands in that year.
The show was hysterical as she took her samples one by one and seated them on her counter. God Bless the Lady.
As a young hayseed in FFA, as a project to raise money we raised capons to dress and sell for Thanksgiving. So we bought several hundred male baby chicks and castrated them. A rooster’s testicles are on each side of his ribcage. You lift his wings, cut a little slit between a certain two ribs, pull the testicle out with tweezers, snip it off, squirt a puff of sulfadrug powder in the inccisions and let him go. Capon is much more to my liking than turkey.
Yeah.... So who came up with the plan to find chicken testicles, just to cut them out? It goes a bit farther than the mystery of the tainted boar-meat.
Anyone who has raised poultry soon wonders what to do with the roosters because when they hit a certain age- long before they have enough meat on them to be worth eating- they begin harassing the females and fighting each other and sometimes even take a few shots at people with their puny little spurs. Caging didn’t exist early on- too expensive and too much trouble to individually cage them unless you were into cock fighting. So they either become waste upon hatching, dog food or bone meal before puberty or... you do what you do to the bulls and the boars: you remove that which causes young roosters to be so disruptive so they’ll leave the hens alone, leave each other alone, leave people alone, and quickly get as fat as three term congressmen so you can get both food and money from them.
Delaying castration just makes it harder for those boars who identify as sows because the operation will be more stressful later on. Better to start that transitioning early.
Deer get gamier in the rut. Does and spike bucks taste better than mature bucks, but when either sex has a lot of adrenaline and other hormones pumping in them from fighting, a night of fearful pursuit, or from a recent blast of speed, the flavor is off, not quite as good as a deer that just woke up, took a nibble and got hit in the heart or neck, or got decked by a car on the highway. They have glands in their hind legs that can really screw up the meat if the contents get onto your knife because you don’t know to avoid cutting into the glands. Bruised meat that has had time to accumulate white blood cells before the deer dies will also have poor flavor, it’s best to cut bruised meat out when packaging your roasts and steaks.
Thanks for the education. I need to learn a lot more about deer, especially since we’re outnumbered by them where we live.
The court needs to order morrons behind the suit to eat tainted pork for a year. Most people would vomit just smelling it.
I’d bet good money the pigs will win this court battle. Pregnant pigs won constitutional rights in Florida. Article X, section 19... Yep, pregnant pigs have state’s rights here. But I wonder if there is a state agency that makes sure a pig is pregnant and not just fat... How can you tell if their rights are being trampled under hoof? (/sarc)
Do male humans receive a pain killer before circumcision?????
