How you refer to the person in the moment isn’t so important, what is important is to keep your eye on the ball. They are where they are because they do not know who they are in Christ, they don’t know who God intended them to be, and who they can still be once God takes up residence in them. So don’t seek offense but don’t feed delusion... There is stuff going on that only God can heal... but which God can and will heal.

The SBC president is advocating lying. That's the bottom line.

And it's not a white lie like "you look fine" to a homely looking person, but it's an unnecessary lie. They know that we don't think they are really the opposite sex of what they actually are.

that isn’t what the bible says about the issue- it says to confront the sin- try to work with them to repent- if they won’t - excommunicate them- confronting people living in sin will almost always bring offense- if the church is to be true to God’s word, it can not shrink from the unpleasant tasks of confronting sin- otherwise it’s a doomed church boudn to fail because of disobedience to God
