This week,in fact today, the lead story over at Gateway is the following:
DISGRACEFUL! Pope Francis Compares US President Trump to King Herod Who Slaughtered Baby Boys During the Time of Christ
Which leads into a discussion of the Catholic Church and what is going on there especially at the upper ranks: Little good from the looks of it.
First a few words from the Gateway piece:

On Thursday Pope Francis trashed the global populist people’s movements and compared President Trump to King Herod who slaughtered all the baby boys in Bethlehem. What an outrageous statement by a very offensive and ignorant man.

In a report published on Thursday, it was reported that while on a recent visit to Buddhists in Thailand, Pope Francis addressed the issue of refugees, comparing the policy of building walls and detention centers to the acts of King Herod who killed Jesus.
La Civilta Cattolica reported on Thursday that while in Thailand, Pope Francis met a group of 48 Jesuits from Southeast Asia. Pope Francis is unique in several respects; he is the first pope from the southern hemisphere and, most significantly, he is the first Jesuit to be appointed to the position. The pope discussed the issue of refugees and immigrants with his fellow Jesuits.
“For the Jesuits our work with refugees has become a real “theological place.” That’s how I see it, a theological place. Pedro Arrupe right here in Thailand in his last speech reaffirmed the importance of this mission. Arrupe was a prophet to me: his ‘swan song’ was the foundation, right here in Bangkok, of the Jesuit Refugee Service. Then, during the flight to Rome from Thailand, he suffered a stroke.”
“The phenomenon of refugees has always existed, but today it is better known because of social differences, hunger, political tensions and especially war. For these reasons, migratory movements are intensifying. What is the answer the world gives? The policy of waste. Refugees are waste material. The Mediterranean has been turned into a cemetery. The notorious cruelty of some detention centers in Libya touches my heart. Here in Asia, we all know the problem of the Rohingya. I must admit that I am shocked by some of the narratives I hear in Europe about borders. Populism is gaining strength.”
You have to wonder about the timing of the Pope's comparison of Trump to King Herrod who slaughtered all the baby boys under two years old hundreds of years ago.

The fourth sin: "encouraging black Africans not to use contraception" with an outbreak of aids and the severe overpopulation problems in Africa goes beyond the pale,IMHO.
All this because some of the church's higher ups see Africa as the saviour of the Catholic chuck. One of the few areas in the world left with high birth rates,and likely to become Catholic. Pretty sick.

He issues opinions on topics he knows nothing about, criticizes orthodox Catholics, sees nothing wrong in allowing the Chinese communists to appoint bishops (and has thus destroyed the underground Church Pope John Paul II worked to shelter), allowed a pagan image to be honored in a church in connection with the "Amazon Synod," and constantly interferes in politics while ignoring the real problems facing the Church.
Thankfully, the younger priests seem more orthodox and dedicated. In my own diocese a brave priest recently told a lesbian judge she should not receive Communion, and he was supported by our bishop. There is hope, but we have to get past this "pope."
