United States This map of the United States was made by Jishai Evers of dadaviz, a site that put out some great data visualizations before being acquired by Vocativ late last year.

Of the United States’ 3,142 counties, just 144 account for half of the population.

Note that the data is five years old, nevertheless,looks very similar to a red county/blue county election map.

And another good graphic reminder of why we have (and need) the Electoral College. Otherwise we would end up like the country in that movie “The Hunger Games”. All of the fly-over country would just be voted on to supply the big metro areas with cheap resources.
