I’m all for giving women in underdeveloped countries free birth control. Having a child every year and watching it die of starvation or disease must be a horrendous experience.
But that’s not what these political science professors have in mind is it? It’s the drivers of Western Civ and its economy they want to extinguish.

The USA, via both bilateral aid and international agencies (like the UN), plus global programs related to banking, credit, and development, have all been handing out contraceptives to impoverished women around the globe since 1970... the Nixon Administration.

It hasn't worked.

One problem is, the poorer you are, the less you can afford NOT to have good number of kids. They are your ONLY insurance -- your only hope of survival--- in time of natural disaster, unemployment, injury, sickness, or the disabilities of old age. No kids, and you die quickly and badly.

On the other hand, adequate personal security & education and income /employment opportunities for women, bring down the birthrate even if there are no contraceptives. An axiom with a whole lotta truth:

When people can take of themselves, the population takes care of itself.
