No question elements of the Saudi elites have funded bin Laden and other Islamist militias/terror groups. But the specific faction of the royals who hold power have been pretty good friends to Uncle Sam. The Saudis not only helped bring down the Soviet Union, they helped fund Desert Storm. Europeans were our allies during WWII because they were invaded or in very close proximity to Hitler’s conquests. In no instance did they fund American operations. In fact, we were lucky if they even paid back the Lend Lease loans. The Soviets never did, despite helping trigger WWII by assuring Hitler he wouldn’t be attacked from two sides via the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact, and providing supplies for Hitler’s blitzkrieg in the Battle of France.
