[Uighurs are an ethnic group, not exclusively Mahometan but vast majority. The Hui are Han Chinese and also Mahometan, but they are left alone.]
What’s new under the current emperor is that all practicing Muslims are getting the third degree, not just the Uighurs. Christians, too, with religious icons getting replaced by photos of Xi and Mao. This is the kind of thing that led Jews to mount a bloody revolt against the Romans that resulted in the destruction of the Second Temple.
