James Scott Reed, 40, died early in the morning on Feb. 27 in an exchange of gunfire with police after Killeen officers executed a no-knock search and arrest warrant at around 6 a.m. at a duplex at 215 West Hallmark Ave.
SWAT officers were met by gunfire as they entered the residence, police said.
During the raid, Custance, who was indicted in June, fired into the rear of the residence and then later attempted to conceal or reload the rifle magazine in order to hide the fact he fired the rounds, investigators determined.
The shots didnt hit anyone, but firing at the house was not in compliance with the planned operation, authorities said.

While police say James Scott Reed shot first, his fiancée is telling another side of the story. "He was laying right there with his eyes open," says Eva Brocks. She says she and James Scott Reed were in bed last Wednesday when something came crashing through the window followed by flickering, blinding lights. "It was like 'boom' and the flares- I jumped that way, and he jumped this way," says Brocks pointing to the sides of the bedroom where broken glass is scattered."Somebody said 'shots fired', and he didn't even fire shots. And that's when all of them went to shooting. She says Killeen police saw her fiancée reaching for his dresser and moments later opened fire. "I kept saying, 'Scottie, get up- get up Scottie,' but his eyes didn't move," she adds tearing up.

If shots didn’t hit anyone, how did Reed die?

Just another example of local TV new reporting.
Are you a junior college journalism dropout? Do you have trouble reporting on basic news items? Can a 7 year old do a better job reporting than you?
No matter - YOU’RE HIRED!
No knock raids should be illegal. Bring enough manpower to cover all exits, and identify yourselves. If someone barged into our home in the middle of the night, the first thing we would do is grab our guns and shoot the perpetrators. Especially if they shone bright lights in our faces, so we couldn’t see they were cops.
To be fair, all the BEST “journalists” are working overtime trying to bring down a Presidency.
The judge should be stripped of his robe and serve some jail time.
“No knock raids should be illegal.”
I don’t think they are legal in Texas. But they are executed all the time, by orders from judges.
I spoke to an unnamed informant that told me Killeen Municipal Judge Mark Kimball likes fat little Chinese boys and proctologists with swollen, hairy knuckles.
I’m surprised they didn’t shoot the witness too.
She’s lucky to be alive.
Either that of be appointed a Federal Court Judge and start approving FISA warrants based on lies and phony FBI evidence.
“with a usable quantity of cocaine.”
Anyone who thinks a no-knock raid for a “usable quantity of cocaine” is justified ought to be shot themselves.
And the same applies to all in the legal chain who authorized it.
Extra rounds due to “unnamed informant”.
Big question: Did they even FIND any cocaine?
If there even was an unnamed informant.
Not required.
It was the seriousness of the charge.
Plus bagging and bragging rights in the SWAT locker room.
No knock raids seem often to be more recreational than justified.
More criminal activity by the ever so compliant police forces in this country. It is no wonder why jack boots are so easy to come into being. The people who become cops do not do it for the betterment of society. They do it just for the rush of cracking somebody’s head. I saw the same mentality in the security forces in the USAF.

“If Custance, who pleaded guilty on Sept. 27, successfully completes the term, the conviction wont appear on his record.”
That means this lying, murdering POS will eventually get his badge and gun back.
How is that justice??????
