I was wondering the same thing.

I no longer identify with the Republican Party either, because there are too many people in it who are not conservatives.

But I would never renounce conservatism.

I think it is all we have unless we want to be Leftists. There are too many gutless leftists and committed leftists in the ranks of the Republican Party to identify with them anymore.

I don’t see any “independent” alternative to Constitutional conservatism either.

What’s remarkable is that there have been several publications warning about the GOP’s shift left, or as “The Naked Communist” put it, the “capture” of the two major parties by the left, and none of these have been referred to even in the present day and too many people act like that the left-captured GOP actually does represent “conservatism”.
