In America I heard that former churches and synagogues that are now re-purposed as mosques often have a sign saying: “This building was once a church.”
In the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer it said many synagogues were turned into public toilets or garages by the Germans. Others were burned to the ground.
